Pluripotent

Able to become almost any cell type in the body.

Why Pluripotent matters when choosing treatment

Cells capable of becoming almost any cell type in the body—the broadest developmental potential. Embryonic stem cells are naturally pluripotent; induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are adult cells reprogrammed to pluripotency in the lab. Pluripotency is scientifically fascinating but clinically risky: pluripotent cells can form tumours (teratomas) if they don't fully differentiate in the patient's body. Reputable clinics restrict pluripotent cells to research or highly controlled trials; most clinical offerings use multipotent cells (bone marrow, fat) with narrower but safer potential. If a clinic mentions pluripotency without extensive safety monitoring, that's a red flag.
