What it is
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is involved in the body's production of NAD+. Research on NAD-related compounds asks two different questions: does the intervention change these metabolites, and does that change improve a health outcome? The systematic review below separates those outcomes.
US status: what changed
The FDA response in docket FDA-2023-P-0872, page 25 reverses the earlier conclusion that NMN was excluded from the dietary-supplement definition. This corrects our previous summary. FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they go on sale; this decision is not an approval of an NMN product or an anti-aging claim.

What the wider review found
A 2026 systematic review included 33 human intervention studies and 80 rodent studies, with a search covering January 2010 to October 2025. Across human studies of oral NMN and NR, NAD-related metabolites changed, but functional, metabolic and vascular outcomes were mixed or specific to individual endpoints. The authors judged clinical effectiveness for anti-aging and wellness inconclusive. This is a dated review, not a claim that every later study has been assessed.
