Crohn's disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have different patterns, complications and established medical and surgical treatments. Cell research includes systemic immune approaches and local treatment of selected fistulas. Results from one local product and indication cannot validate intravenous MSCs for luminal disease, ulcerative colitis or general gut healing.
The evidence for Crohn's & IBD
Alofisel (darvadstrocel) was an allogeneic adipose-derived MSC product formerly authorised in the EU for selected complex perianal fistulas in adults with Crohn's disease. Separate gastroenterology assessment, exact product and route, fistula imaging or surgery, medicines, admission, travel, follow-up and complication care. Protect access to established biologic, small-molecule, nutritional and surgical treatment and do not use a former authorisation to justify a commercial package.
Are stem cells approved for Crohn's?
Cell therapy for Crohn's & IBD may be offered as an individualised programme, but regulatory status depends on the product, processing, indication and jurisdiction. It is currently investigational.
